What if your child could learn the tools needed for emotional regulation?

When your child struggles to calm down from numerous meltdowns, or when they can’t stop shutting down when stress is too much, what do you do?  Most parents struggle to even understand what’s going on, let alone know how to teach their foster/kinship/adopted child what emotions are or how they work.  The Light House has done the work of putting together curriculum that not only educates, but shows the children how to pay attention to their bodies and minds and learn what works for them.  Let us work with your child and see the difference today!

Emotional Regulation Class

Our emotional regulation class is offered to all children 7 to 12 yrs old affected by foster care which includes: Foster, Kinship, Adopted, and Reunified families.  The class entails many activity stations that educates about emotions, provides movement, and shows children how to use the tools / coping techniques shown to them.   The environment is fun, creative, and provides much needed community to children with trauma. Register your child today and see the change when they have the tools they need to regulate

Our Environment

Our class is located in a school that allows children to feel safe and familar.  This allows for children to have less triggers and give the program and activities a chance. We are currently working with Denver Public Schools to attain a location that will be determined soon.  It will be located in Denver.  We will notify you as soon as possible.

Location: TBD in Denver

Telephone: 720-556-4837 (cellphone)

When: Every other Sunday from 1:30-3:00pm

Learn By Doing

Each learning station combines movement with simple, age‑appropriate teaching about emotions. When a child shares how they’re feeling—such as saying they feel angry—the teacher guides them through a short movement activity, like bear crawls. Afterward, the teacher helps the child notice how their body feels and where that anger may have shifted. By connecting physical movement with emotional awareness, children learn a healthy, practical way to release big feelings and understand their own bodies more deeply.

FAQ’s

Here are some frequently asked questions that parents may have about our classes…

How many children are in the Emotional Regulation Class?

Our class is limited to 10 children every class.  This ensure’s the teacher and volunteer can handle the one-on-one experience that we need to give our children.  Children who have experienced trauma need smaller classrooms as well to make them feel more safe.

Does my child need to be signed up for each class or can I just show up?

Please make sure to register your child for each class (you can register online for mulitple dates at once) to ensure their place in the class.  There is a limit on how many children can be in the class.

How do I let someone know we have to cancel?

There are two ways to let us know that your child won’t be able to attend class.  Please send an email to us at info@thelighthousedenver.org or call/text us at 720-556-4837.  The sooner you notify us of the vacancy, we can notify a wait list child that they can attend.

What happens if we are on the waitlist for awhile? How do we get to attend the class?

As soon as we have enough kids on the waitlist, we will extend our classes to another classroom and teacher.

I want to attend the classes, but it is located too far from me. Is there any way you can do the classes closer?

Any child in the Denver Metro area will be able to attend our class, but if you are located further than comfortable, please let us know by email.  We plan on expanding our classes in the future and if we know where everyone is located that is waiting, we know where to go next to meet the need.  Our email is info@thelighthousedenver.org

Do you want to volunteer with us for our emotional regulation class?

We need you!  If you are passionate about kids’ mental health, please reach out to us today and we can get you plugged in to our Emotional Regulation class.  No experience necessary and training is provided.  If you know trauma, that is a huge plus, but it is not a requirement.  Sign up today and we will let you know the next steps.

Sponsor a Child's Mental Health Journey

Did you know it only costs about $25-50 for an entire class of 10 children to participate in our Emotional Regulation class?  You can make a difference in a child’s mental health by doing a reccuring donation starting at just $25!  These are children in the Arapahoe and Denver counties and your support helps every class.  Consider donating monthly to provide these children much needed support!
